At the Housing Action Council we help people in their local communities to advocate for affordable housing by arming them with the tools they need to navigate the process. We provide support to community groups from helping them to identify land use issues to developing position statements to how to make a presentation before local planning boards.
From decades of working on housing policies, we have learned that the best way for us to create an integrated housing action plan and assist in regulatory changes is to make sure that we bring all stakeholders (including homeowners, renters, landlords, business owners, social service providers, developers, and investors) into a shared collaborative conversation focused on housing policy best practices. Specifically, we lead our communities through an engaging educational process where they learn how other similar communities have experimented with different multi-sectoral solutions to housing needs. And while we do offer our concrete professional recommendations, our main goal is to make sure that communities have all the tools, information, and data they need to make tough decisions about the policies they want to adopt in their community.
